The Lake Tanganyika Biodiversity Project was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and executed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The first phase of the project (1995 - 2000) was implemented by the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), Marine Resources Assessment Group (MRAG), and the Institute for Freshwater Ecology (IFE) in conjunction with the governments of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia.|
