In Memorium
Bahati (James) Barongo
1967 - 2004

It is with much sadness that we pass on the news that Bahati (James) Barongo died in a UN helicopter crash in Sierra Leone on 29 June 2004.

Bahati served as an Administrative Officer for the Lake Tanganyika Biodiversity Project and for the subsequent Lake Tanganyika Management Planning Project. He subsequently took an Administrative Adviser post with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), based first in Kabul, Afghanistan and subsequently in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He was on an IRC mission at the time of the accident.

Bahati was an amazing individual, co-worker, husband and father and he will be sorely missed by both his friends and by the humanitarian community for which he dedicated his life.

Bahati is survived by his wife Doreen and their children Jean-Marie, Kurwa, Doto and Bahati Helen of Dar es Salaam.

[30 Jun 04] The IRC invites those who knew Bahati to submit written tributes to him. Please contact Erica DePiero, ericad@theIRC.org.
